Foundation -- Always use primer. Not even kidding. In fact, I bet with primer, Len's skin wouldn't break out. It fills in pores and wrinkles and if you get a good kind it will even improve your skin. Use liquid foundation after that. If you can't get a perfect match, go lighter. You can always add bronzer and stuff, but it's better to be paler than to look like your tan stops at your jawline. Always make sure to blend at your jawline too. If unsure, ask someone to help you. My mom blends mine sometimes if she notices it. After that, apply powder. I use a transparent powder that helps to set the makeup and get rid of shine, but you can get tinted as well to add to the coverage. Just try not to look plastic.
Blush -- If you have yellow skin (not asian, just a yellow or olive tint) use a pink or rose, but for pinker skin it's better to use purple, brown, or none. If you have pinkish skin, don't go painting on the tickle-me-pink blush! It'll make you look sickly. My favorite blush is Nars, but if you're short on money you can find some alright ones at Wal-Mart. If you're adventurous, orange is really cool. The application depends on your bone structure. Generally it's best to start on the apple of your cheeks (when you smile, the cute chubby part) UNDER your cheekbone and then gently sweep in a slightly upward angle following underneath your bone and taper off about an inch before your hairline. The part on your apple should be darker, but it shouldn't look like you grabbed your little cousin's finger paints and when crazy. It should just make you look like you have a glow to you. NEVER apply blush above your cheekbones or it will make your face look fat (undermines cheekbone refinement) and looks really gross. And I know people who just start at the apple and brush down their face, creating two huge rouge spots on their cheeks. Please never do that either.
Mascara: This is one of my favorite makeup accessory. If you wear nothing else, wear this! I already have long eyelashes, but this stuff is seriously amazing. I prefer volumizing, but some people worry about length. Pick your poison. There are also different colors, which is cool. Just make sure to have an eyelash brush (they're like tiny plastic combs) handy so that while the mascara is still wet, you can brush the lashes into place to get rid of clumping and everything. And don't forget to do your bottom lashes as well! Mascara really brightens up the eyes, it's great! Also, if you have bare spots in your lashes, getting some single fake lashes is good, but only really for special occassions.
Eyeliner: Don't be afraid to try different colors, especially ones that enhance your eyeshadow. For instance, use navy blue eyeliner to enhance blue eyeshadow, etc. I put mine mainly on my low lid, thick, but sometimes do both. I never just do the top, but that's cool I guess. A surprisingly neat way to get cool colors of eyeliner is to use LIPLINER! I hate lipliner, and red eyeliner is really too cool to use as eyeliner.
Eyeshadow: There's so much to say about this. There are a million techniques and it can get overwhelming. Have fun with eyeshadow, it's great. But try not to look like a clown. Blues, unless really bright or dark, mostly make people look like hookers. Black,Greens and purples are my personal favorites. As for application, there are many techniques. www.thefrugalface.com/application.htm That site might help you. There are a million more ways, though. Eyeshadow is the most versatile makeup, so don't be afraid to think outside the box on this one.
Have fun, but don't go supermodel in one day. Gradually work more makeup elements into your routine so you don't scare people. Hope that helped.
(Are you guys shocked that I'm interested in makeup? It's the only form of fashion I care about.)
